It is with great pride that I am a Director at Villa Charities and have recently been nominated Chair of the Culture Committee. Since its early days in 1971, Villa Charities has developed a unique approach to carrying out diverse services in the Greater Toronto's Italian-Canadian community.

Italian Heritage Month

Italian Heritage Month, which is held in June of each year, is a time to remember the contributions Canadians of Italian heritage have made over the years. It is also a time to celebrate the community’s accomplishments. As Canadians of Italian heritage, we have much to be proud of. Canadians of Italian heritage are active members of the Canadian mosaic.
Each June, Diversity Matters supports a myriad of events at public libraries and organizes round tables and children’s activities in Italian.

Rainbow Caterpillar Multilingual Bookshop

In a country like Canada, where many of us come from somewhere else, it is fitting that a smart little bookshop called Rainbow Caterpillar would encourage kids not only to read books in their heritage language, but also to write stories in those very languages. In 2014, Rainbow Caterpillar introduced the Junior Kid Lit Award which will encourage children to write a story in languages other than French or English.
Diversity Matters is proud to support reading and writing in kids, and is sponsoring the first prize for the winning story.
